Minutes of Meeting at the Waterloo Rec Center August 8, 2007

Welcome by Pat Bowlsby

Fundraising- our biggest priority

Keith Clark will head up Major Gift Solicitation.

Plans: Party in the Park will be held on September 27

Pat reports that a gift of $10,000 has been pledged. The donation jars at the Vet's offices have netted $300 It is suggested that a picture of the park be placed on the jars.

Suggestions:

Scavenger Hunt Participants enroll as a team and pay an entry fee. They search for items from a common list. Prizes to be donated by local businesses.

Lifetime Permit Anyone interested could purchase a lifetime membership to the Dog Park (perhaps for $200) Fund would be collected through the City Clerk's office.

Permanent Plaques For a fee, plaques with donor names could be placed at the park (If we decide to sell ads to be placed at the Park, City ordinances would have to be followed)

Name the Park For a donation of $25,000, a person would name the Park

Photographic Memories They would offer, at half price, an half hour session for a child or family and an 11x14 picture for $49. $39 would be donated to the Dog Park.

Dog Treats Vicki Harken makes human grade dog treats. She would be willing to make them for us to sell with some of the profit going towards the Dog Park.

Dog Quilt An embroiderer is willing to make a dog quilt for us to sell or raffle.

We plan to apply for a grant from the Casino.

We could invite Celebrity Pet Owners to the Party in the Park (mayor, TV personalities, etc.) We were reminded that 80% of the money will come from $20% of the donors.

We need to inquire whether automatic deductions and pledges can be managed by the Community Foundation.

It was suggested that we ask the Vets to donate $5000 per year for 5 years.

We might consider putting ads in the papers with Park information and a cut out area with name, address, and donation to be mailed in to our PO box. The Vets might want to place ads of their own around the Dog Park ad.

Fencing: Robin spoke with Chris Miller of Miller Fence. He has some money set aside for fencing at the Dog Park.

There's a possibility fencing might be donated for use at the Dog Park. Installation won't begin until next Spring.

Water: Paul H. may be able to tap some City funding to get water to the water fountains.

Website: Sue K. has been taking care of working with Leisure Services and our website. We may be able to put a picture of the Park on our website. We'd like to put the donation information from our brochure on the site (and information about automatic withdrawal if we find it to be a viable option.)

Election of the Board:
President Pat Bowlsby
Treasurer Susan Clark
Secretary Susan Wirtjes

Robin is taking the tee shirts that we are selling.

Keith and Susan Clark, Suzanne Hundley, and Pam Carlson will assist with Party in the Park.

The Parks Dept. is making a sign that reads "Future Home of the Waterloo Dog Park" with a symbol that shows our progress towards meeting our financial goal.

Respectfully submitted by Susan Wirtjes Secretary
