In Black Hawk County, death rates from both heart failure and hypertension among African Americans are the highest in the state. One in every four people dies of heart disease.
715,000 Americans have a heart attack every year.
You can prevent this from happening to you by doing something we’d all like to do a little more. Get outside and play it off.
The new Waterloo Fitness Zone at Furgerson-Fields Park is the perfect place for outdoor fitness and fun!
Try out the new multistation fitness rack, complete with soft surfacing and instructions for your total body workout in an enjoyable park setting. Or grab some friends for a walk in the park and surrounding neighborhood. Taking brisk walks for 30 minutes each day for five days a week can help you lose weight and lower your blood pressure.
Still not sure? There are basketball courts and grass fields for whatever pickup game you and your friends like best. A shelter provides the perfect place for yoga or a fun exercise class. Plus, the playground is right there, so you can bring the kids along for some fun too.
So what are you waiting for? Fitness can be fun, and so can fighting heart disease. Grab some friends and play it off.
