SPRING BREAK SPORTS CAMPSKingergarten-5th Grades
This program is designed to keep participants active during spring break through an assortment of sports activities. Leisure Services Staff members will lead participants through structured games each day. Participants will meet at designated times Monday-Wednesday. Thursday’s meeting will be K-2 (9:00-12:00) and 3-5 (9:00-1:00) for a pizza party. The 3rd-5th graders will be able to swim from 11:00-12:00 each day. Certified lifeguards will be on staff to supervise the pool area. Parents are welcome to stay and watch or they can drop children off for the program.

Summer Basketball League4th-8th Grade Boys & Girls
This program will include basic fundamental instruction through team practices and league play with a heavy emphasis placed on sportsmanship. This league will conclude with a tournament and a league championship game. Referees and score-keepers will be used for games. Awards for 1st and 2nd place teams in both boys and girls divisions. Program runs June 10, 2009 - July 30, 2009 with Boys meeting on Mondays/Wednesdays and Girls meeting on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Games and practices will be held between 5:30pm and 8:30pm at the Boys & Girls Club. Participants will receive a league schedule at the first team practice.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURERSAges: 7-12
The Leisure Services Department is excited to offer this program in cooperation with the Iowa DNR and George Wyth State Park. The adventurers will experience many different outdoor activities in this 4-day program. Activities will consist of nature hikes, leaf pressing, catching aquatic animals, nature crafts, fish identification, animal tracking, making shelters and many other fun and informative activities. The program will be led by a George Wyth State Park Naturalist with the assistance of Leisure Services Staff. Participants will meet at George Wyth at 9:00am for a two-hour adventure session Monday-Wednesday. On Thursday participants will meet for a four-hour session which will be spent fishing (lunch will be provided).

JR. HIGH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE6th-8th Grades
We’ve heard from our customers of a need for a Jr. High Volleyball league, so here it is. Seven weeks of game play on Wednesday evenings at Central Middle School. Games will begin February 17, 2010 and end April 7, 2010. Participants need to form their own teams (a minimum of six players is required) and provide their own coach/manager. Games will be six-on-six, with rally scoring. Teams can be formed with any combination of 6th-8th graders.

3-ON-3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT4th-6th Grades
A day of fun on February 27, 2010 for youth to experience tournament pool play. Teams may be made up of any combination of 4th-6th graders with boys and girls divisions. Awards for 1st and 2nd places in each pool. The tournament will start at 9:00 a.m. with check-in starting at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required.

IPRA SPOT SHOT CONTESTAges: 8-13
This contest is sponsored by the Iowa Park and Recreation Association. The contest consist of participants shooting from seven different designated locations on the court to make as many baskets as possible in 60 seconds. The contest consist of two rounds that are combined for a total score. Ribbons are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, with participation certificates for all competitiors. There are separate divisions for boys and girls, which are broken into six different age divisions. The 1st and 2nd place winners in each age group/gender qualify for the State Finals. The State Finals will be held in Grinnell on Saturday, March 27, 2010. For more information on the contest visit www.ipra.org
